Many people do not know this, but many Saints actually suffered from depression. St Ignatius of Loyola was one of them. He suffered through all the burdens of a packed head and a burdened heart to become a master of prayer. He wrote the prayer below.

Dealing with depression is very important in one’s prayer life because it could actually prevent one from praying or paying attention at Mass or other important gatherings.

Prayer against Depression:

O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

Prayer of St Teresa

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

— St. Teresa of Avila.
