Addiction should never keep us from God. I decided to lead with this because many people lose hope when they’re battling to overcome certain sins or bad habits but this is not what God wants. Addiction is like an affliction, though not absolutely outside of our freedom. Still, addictions limit freedom and make free-choice almost impossible sometimes.
So, battling addiction is difficult because sometimes it could be really tough to get over those things that trigger certain behaviours. What we need is prayer, firm resolution, constant spiritual reading and regular confession. In fact, the reception of the Sacraments is what will actually heal the soul wounded repeatedly by sin and bad habit. Get busy, avoid any near occasions of sin.
This prayer is helpful alongside the Mass, the Rosary, visit to the Blessed Sacrament etc. Here:
St. Jude Prayer for Addiction
God of life, You made me in Your perfect image, to live in Your love and to give You glory, honour and praise. Open my heart to Your healing power. Come, Lord Jesus, calm my soul just as you whispered “Peace” to the stormy sea.
St. Jude, most holy Apostle, in my need I reach out to you. I beg you to intercede for me that I may find the strength to overcome my illness. Bless all those who struggle with addiction. Touch them, heal them, reassure them of the Father’s constant love.
Remain at my side, St. Jude, to chase away all evil temptations, fears, and doubts. May the quiet assurance of your loving presence illuminate the darkness in my heart and bring lasting peace.
